Demonstration Garden Project

Assembly Bill 1572 (AB 1572) prohibits the use of potable (drinking) water for irrigating non-functional turf on public, commercial, industrial, institutional, and HOA properties. The law requires property owners to stop using potable water for non-functional turf by the following dates:
- January 1, 2027: Public properties (state and local government)
- January 1, 2028: Commercial, industrial, and institutional properties
- January 1, 2029: Common areas of HOAs and CIDs
To comply with AB 1572, Vandenberg Village Community Services District has enlisted the help of the Lompoc Valley Botanic and Horticultural Society to design a low-water use demonstration garden in place of the green space next to the VVCSD office. This project will break ground in early 2026 and is expected to be completed by January 2027. This project will be funded through water conservation in-lieu fees.
The Vandenberg Village Community Services District is seeking community members to help transform our non-functional green space into a beautiful showcase of low-water-use plants and trees. If you would like to help beautify this space and improve one of the first places visitors to Vandenberg Village see, please consider signing up to volunteer.
